To mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar where Horatio Nelson lost his life, Heritage Malta has put up an exhibition at the St Angelo Hall of the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa.

The exhibition highlights the events leading to the British takeover of Malta.

The expectations and caution displayed by the Maltese towards the French rulers who ousted from Malta the Order of St John on June 12, 1798, soon turned into discontent.

The French were put under siege behind the fortifications of Valletta and the surrounding Grand Harbour cities.

Nelson was the principal figure in the eventful years of the siege, blockade and subsequent possession of Malta by England.
