Reference is being made to the letter entitled Confiscation Of Memory Cards by Jaycee Sullivan (September 17).

It is to be pointed out that the police borrowed footage of the game between Malta and Croatia of the incidents that occurred after the game from a Croatian journalist to help the police during the course of the investigations. The footage was returned immediately afterwards.

Also, during the mentioned incidents at the Ta' Qali National Stadium, a police inspector was handed over four digital camera memory cards by a civilian who stated that the memory cards could help the police during the investigations.

It resulted that three of the memory cards were empty. The other memory card contained some pictures of the incidents and copies of the photos were made for investigation purposes.

At first the police found it difficult to trace the owner or owners of the memory cards since the police had not themselves collected the memory cards. However, it was later established that the memory card with the photos and another empty one belonged to a Maltese newspaper photographer and the other two memory cards belonged to a foreign person. All memory cards were returned to their respective owners.

The police categorically deny that any orders were given to have cameras or their memory cards confiscated.

The police are still trying to identify the person or persons that collected the memory cards from the journalist present.
