A full development permit for landscaping, restoration and construction works at Fort Chambray in Gozo was unanimously approved by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority yesterday.

A permit for these works had already been granted but a new permit was required because the initial one had expired. Yesterday's permit covers outstanding works to complete the development as previously approved but excludes the construction of a hotel.

Last January the government passed on the site to a new developer, Michael Caruana of Gozo. Mepa yesterday also unanimously approved a full development permit for the building of a residential apartment block with underlying multi-storey garages and car parking as part of the Tigné development and an amended development permission for another block.

In another application, the authority approved additions and alterations to the four-star Riviera Resort and Spa in Marfa with eight votes for and three against.

These will give the hotel an additional 49 rooms bringing the total to 240.
