Schuster puts Getafe success down to hard work

Getafe coach Bernd Schuster puts his side's surprise leadership of the Primera Liga down to a straightforward combination of hard work and common sense.

The modest Madrid-based side, who are in only their second season in the top flight, lead the standings by a point from Celta Vigo after six games and are one of just two teams who have yet to lose a match.

"It's not a miracle, it's simply a case of us putting in the necessary work," the former German international said yesterday.

Schuster, who played for Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid during his career, said he had tried to use ideas from both Spain and Germany in his coaching.

"I like my teams to make a strong start and in order to do that you have to work hard in pre-season," he said.

"I try to mix the ideas from my country Germany, where there is more emphasis on physical fitness, and those of Spain."
