Popular traffic management

For several years, residents of Balzan have been hoping to see Sisner Street become a one-way street, like practically all others in the locality. Driving out of Sisner Street onto the very busy Idmejda Street (Good Shepherd chapel) is very dangerous. To make matters worse, parking in Sisner Street, unlike all other streets in Balzan, is allowed on both sides.

Imagine my surprise, when I read in a leaflet that "after consulting the households in the street, and as the majority of the residents, seven in all, do not want a one-way traffic system, the council has decided to accede to the wish of the residents and leave Sisner Street a two-way street".

I would have thought that traffic management is the responsibility of the Malta Transport Authority or some other entity but certainly not of the residents of the particular street!
