Uruguay president Tabare Vaz-quez has suggested to FIFA boss Sepp Blatter that the South American country co-host the 2030 World Cup, it was reported yesterday.

The tournament will celebrate its centenary in that year, Uruguay having organised, hosted and won the inaugural tournament in 1930.

Vazquez reportedly made the suggestion during a 50-minute meeting with Blatter on Monday.

Blatter reportedly told journalists: "Today, it's a dream, which has to become a project before it can become reality."

South America is due to stage the 2014 World Cup under the new rotation system which was introduced by FIFA and which begins with Africa hosting the 2010 tournament.

Brazil are favourites to host the 2014 tournament after the other nine South American countries agreed to back them as the continent's only candidates.
