Appreciation - Eileen Calleja
Anna Cesareo writes:
My very good friend and neighbour Eileen has moved house to a much better and poshier place, which I am sure she is sharing with her husband Victor.
I did not want to go to the funeral because of very particular reasons which Eileen knew about. I knew I could not take it! However, I could not possibly let my friend go without my last goodbye.
I've known Eileen for over 40 years, before she got married. I was introduced to her by her (then) fiancé Victor who used to come to replace me at the pharmacy in Birkirkara and we got to know each other rather well. On and off we lost contact but, when we met again, we could always pick up where we left off.
When I worked in a pharmacy in Ta' Xbiex, her daughter Graziella used to live in the flat above the pharmacy, so again, we picked up our friendship and finally we ended up as neighbours living two doors away from each other in the same street.
Eileen was a kind unobtrusive person, a real friend, always ready to lend a sympathetic ear, ask relevant questions through sheer interest, giving her honest advice and always offering her prayers. She never asked for anything in return.
In a word, all I can say, Eileen was Eileen.
Her children Graziella and Daniela have been very lucky to have her as their mother and I have been very lucky to have her as my friend.
Farewell Eileen, until we meet again.
