BEZZINA. On August 29, Rev. KARM BEZZINA, aged 63, passed away in Brazil. He leaves to mourn his loss his brothers and sisters and their families, the clergy of Zebbug, other priests, relatives and friends. - R.I.P.

BRIFFA. On September 30, Beatrice née Caruana, wife of Joseph, aged 72, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved husband Joseph, her children Lorraine and her husband Martin, Jackie, and Monique and her husband Antoine, her grandchildren Kyle, Nicole and Julia, brothers, sisters, in-laws and their families, relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves Boffa Hospital today at 1.45 p.m. for Ta' l-Ibrag parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Hospice Movement will be greatly appreciated. Lord grant her eternal rest.

FENECH. On September 24, FRANS, aged 76, passed peacefully away in Canada. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Alice, his daughters Josephine and Cathy and their husbands, his grandchildren, his beloved sister Mary and brothers Tony and Charlie, other relatives and friends.
Lord grant him eternal rest.

GALEA. Suddenly, on September 30, at St Luke's Hospital, THERESE, aged 85, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Maryrose, widow of Frederick Barry, Sister Dorothy Galea, FMM Balzan, Anita and her husband Charlie, Joseph and his wife Marlene, and John and his wife Linda of Australia, her grandchildren Ernest and his wife Aline, Chris and his wife Charmaine, Julian and Chanel, Duncan, John and Jesmond and their fiancées, her great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta, St Julian's, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. GAUCI. On October 2, at St Luke's hospital, JOHN, aged 82, of Paola passed peacefully away. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Maria née Zammit, his children Tony and his wife Carmen, Joseph and his wife Carmen, Rita, Martin and his wife Jennifer, Margaret and her husband John, Emmanuel, Helen Rose and her husband Joseph, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral leaves St Luke's hospital tomorrow at 8.45 a.m. for St Augustine church, Tarxien where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.15 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

MIZZI. On October 2, Josephine née Aquilina, aged 84, passed away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Anthony, her children Mary, widow of Anthony Ebejer, Connie, Joe and his wife Genevieve, Alfred and his wife Miriam, her sister Mary, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 2 p.m. for the Immaculate Conception parish church, Cospicua where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m.

TAGLIAFERRO. On October 2, at St Luke's Hospital, Emanuel, aged 92, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his irreparable loss his beloved children Josephine and her husband Adrian Chetcuti, Mary and her husband Andrew West, Marlene and her husband Raymond Micallef, his 10 grandchildren, his sister Josephine Abela, his sister-in-law Marianne Micallef, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.

Cultural heritage lectures

The series of lectures on cultural heritage and the environment by Din l-Art Helwa will be introduced with a talk by Joseph Vella on Air Pollution In The Maltese Islands on October13.

Other lectures will be Surnames And Place Names In Malta by Godfrey Wettinger on November 20; The Fortifications Of The Knights At The Time Of The Great Siege by Stephen Spiteri on December 15; The Order Of St. John And The Emergence Of A Maltese State by Alain Blondy on February 9;

Native Photography In The Maltese Islands by Guido Bonnet on March 9; Edward Lear And His Paintings Of Malta by David Farley Hills on April 12; Abbatija Tad-Dejr by Mario Buhagiar on May 11 and Ancient And Medieval Occupation Of The Valletta Harbour by Nathaniel Cutajar on June 8.

All presentations will take place at the Judge Caruana Curran Hall, Din l-Art Helwa, 133 Melita Street, Valletta. Lectures will start at 6 p.m. Admission is free but donations to Din l-Art Helwa will greatly assist the organisation in its restoration and maintenance of the historical properties it holds in guardianship for the nation.

Urinary incontinence

Urinary Incontinence is the theme chosen by the Health Committee for their next talk to be held at the National Council of Women's centre in Blata l-Bajda on October 14 at 6.30 p.m. The theme of the talk is Urinary Incontinence: Discovering The Truth.

The committee said urinary incontinence is a major problem that effects all age groups but most often sufferers don't seek professional advice or help for various reasons.

Art competition

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce will be holding the fourth national art competition and exhibition which is open to Maltese and foreign artists residing in Malta.

Artists are encouraged to submit works that best portray their personal beliefs, feelings and styles.

The first prize will be Lm200, the second Lm100, the third Lm50 apart from two consolation prizes of Lm30 each for the artistes who place fourth and fifth.

Certificates will be awarded for works receiving an honourable mention.

The entries will be displayed during the Book And Antiques Fair between December 1 and 4 and the Christmas Fair between December 7 and 13 at the Trade Fair Grounds, in Naxxar.

Applications for participation are to be submitted by October 17.

Course for grandparents

The National Council of Women will be holding a course for grandparents at the NCW centre in Blata l-Bajda on October 5, 12, and 19 from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

The course consists of three sessions and aims at offering grandparents the opportunity to reflect on the time spent with their grandchildren and review ways of enhancing it.

The registration fee is of Lm1.50 per session.

Sharing the City

Charles Knevitt will be delivering a public lecture on Sharing The City today at 7 p.m. at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta as part of celebrations marking World Architecture Day. The talk will deal with all aspects of the city, from its values, culture and heritage to its liveability and quality. The event is part of a programme of activities entitled Time For Architecture, being organised by the Chamber of Architects and the Society of Architecture and Civil Engineering Students.

Old photographs

Sir Arturo Mercieca Primary School, in Victoria would like to hear from people who have photographs of personalities and events related to the school.

The school plans to include such photographs in a publication to mark the 150th anniversary of its opening.

Caritas co-operators

Caritas co-operators will be holding an activity at the Suncrest Hotel, Qawra on October 12 at 10.30 a.m.

Roberta Borg Costanzi will talk about healthy eating and Mgr Victor Grech will celebrate Mass at noon. Patrons will be able to play cards or any other game in the afternoon after lunch.
