The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses has requested a meeting with the Health Minister to discuss problems resulting from what it termed as the shortage of nurses.

The union said it wrote to the minister saying it was hoping he would intervene so that all the nurses who graduated this year would be employed on a casual basis as was done in recent years.

The union said 90 new nurses had not been given a job despite the fact that nurses in employment were feeling the stress resulting from the shortage of staff.
