The number of employed people in the second quarter of this year was 148,333, with the majority, or 25.2 per cent, aged between 25 and 34, the National Statistics Office said yesterday.

The mean age of employed females was 34 and that of males worked out at 39.

About 134,653 were estimated to be employed full-time basis and a further 12,342 were working part-time. The average gross annual salary for full-timers was estimated at Lm5,467 and that of part-time workers Lm2,597.

Between April and June this year, the total number of unemployed persons was put at 12,626. The unemployment rate stood at 7.8 per cent.

The unemployment rate for males was 7.2 per cent while that for females hit 9.3 per cent. Additionally, the unemployment rate for persons aged between 15 and 24 was estimated to be about 17.5 per cent.
