A stretch of about 80 metres of Braille Street in Sta Venera has no pavement whatsoever. Consequently, pedestrians are at great risk of being run over on this busy street.

I have seen old people, women pulling shopping carts, mothers with pushchairs and small groups of schoolchildren walking along with vehicles passing dangerously close to them.

I have been insisting that the local council puts in this missing pavement since February. The replies they gave me are typical of the numerous insensitive authorities that exist in Malta. Besides issuing traffic tickets the council is duty-bound to protect people from getting run over.

Are the roughly 10 cars that park along this stretch of Braille Street more important than the pedestrians? The lives of people are at stake. I urge Sta Venera citizens to put strong pressure on their council so that this dangerous situation is remedied before someone is seriously injured or killed.
