A large volume of building material was dumped next to the Kirkop roundabout on Friday night in what appears to be a systematic attempt to turn the island into a rubbish tip.
A spokesman for the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry said it was evident that any appeals to halt such acts of vandalism were falling on deaf ears.
Resources Minister Ninu Zammit said there have been four consecutive days of illegal dumping after Super One TV decided not to air an advert to show the scourge of dumping. Besides, there have been scores of vandal acts in the last four days.
The ministry called for co-operation from the public to report any cases of littering or vandalism.
Until the end of August, the ministry forked out Lm400,000 to clear up rubbish from valleys and arterial roads.
