Strengthening the voluntary sector

The National Council of Women notes with satisfaction the proposed legislation, which contains a strong positive basis to strengthen the voluntary sector in Malta.

At the consultation meeting on the white paper, held last Monday, there was a healthy, open discussion. NGOs from different sectors were present and raised concerns from the appointment and powers of the Commissioner to the Civil Code amendments, which are yet to be published.

Concerns were also raised on the need for a clear distinction between government-appointed entities and voluntary organisations. These issues and recommendations need to be taken into consideration when the final draft is prepared.
