A group of tennis players from the Gordon Asciak Tennis School, led by coach Helen Asciak, are currently taking part in a friendly tournament hosted by TC Palermo 2 in Sicily.
The squad features Matthew Asciak, Malta's top junior player, Brenda Galea, the U-12 junior champion, U-14 doubles champion Jean Paul Schembri and Bernie Wirth, runner-up in the girls U-14 Open. The other junior players in the Gordon Asciak Tennis School team are: Anthony Seddon, J.J. Ver Elst, Malik Atwair, John Calleja, Angela Bartolo, Michela Jaccarini and Nicola Jaccarini.
During their stay in Palermo, the visiting players will also have the opportunity to train with Francesco Palpacelli who was the sparring partner of Belgium star player Justine Henin-Hardenne at some grand slam events.
The medals for the Palermo tournament were sponsored by Gordon Asciak Sports, a new sports outlet opening soon in San Gwann.
