The distribution of the latest edition of the Yellow Pages is set to begin this week, the publishers said.

Delivery will take place in conjunction with the Yellow Pages' annual recovery programme, which allows users to dispose of their old copies in an environmentally friendly manner. Since starting the recovery programme six years ago, about 270 tonnes of waste have been diverted to foreign recycling plants.

Last year alone, a surplus of over 70,000 outdated copies were recovered from households - copies that would otherwise have found their way to the increasingly over burdened landfills.

In the coming weeks, over 215,000 copies of the new edition will be distributed to homes, businesses and hotels. Delivery commences tomorrow. While delivery dates may vary according to region and area, all Yellow Pages directories will be delivered by October 3.

Households will be informed of the exact date of delivery by means of a pre-notification slip.

The public is invited to leave old copies near their letterboxes, on the doorstep, or in the hallway in the case of apartments, on the specific date indicated on the pre-notification slip.

The Yellow Pages includes over 42,000 business listings.

Since starting the Yellow Pages' annual recovery programme in 1999, about 270 tonnes of waste have been diverted to foreign recycling plants.
