People with dementia find it hard to remember, learn and communicate. After a while, this makes it hard for them to take care of themselves. Dementia may also change their mood and personality. It is very important for family and friends to help recognise a person who may have dementia.
The Dementia Society ( www.maltadementiasociety.org.mt ) was formed recently to increase awareness of Dementia, and give support. A memory walk will be held at Freedom Square, Valletta, on Friday at 5 p.m. as part of World Altzheimer's Disease International week.
