Malta's correct National Day is September 8. In 1565 the Knights of Malta and the Maltese won the Great Siege and defeated the Turks. September 8 also marks the end of the Second World War.

The date used to be considered the national day but nowadays Malta celebrates five national holidays. Parliament should consider settling for one day that signifies our republic, freedom, independence, bravery and European membership.
