Douglas and Bezzina win third race

New Birkirkara St Joseph signing James Douglas (right), and Athleta Pembroke's Lisa Bezzina won their respective categories in the third race of the 5K Road Running Series, organised by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club.

In perfect racing conditions on the flat Ta' Qali National Park route, the top three athletes finished the race under 16 minutes.

Douglas was first in 15 minutes 51 seconds, three seconds ahead of St Patrick's Drew Lang. Brian Magri, of Athleta Pembroke, finished third in 15 minutes 59 seconds.

Bezzina also clocked her best time in this series, finishing in 17 minutes 52 seconds, ahead of Carmen Hili (19 minutes 11 seconds) and Carol Francica (25 minutes 7 seconds)

The fourth and final race of the Series will be held on December 13 at Birkirkara. This 5K Road Running Series is organised in collaboration with the Birkirkara Local Council and Maxim Sports Nutrition, under the auspices of the Malta Amateur Athletics Association.
