The Zebbug local council yesterday condemned acts of vandalism committed over the past days at the locality's playing field.

The council described the vandals as "irresponsible, without a conscience and with no civic sense".

The council said these acts indicate the "immaturity and ignorance" of the vandals as well as lack of respect towards the rest of the locals.

In the past week, the Zebbug council embarked on a cleaning, embellishment and maintenance project at the locality's gardens and playing field. However, just after the work was completed irresponsible people scratched the swings, which had just been painted, threw soil on the ground and committed other acts of vandalism.

The council said this was not the first time that the playing field suffered at the hands of vandals. Moreover, the council condemned the irresponsible people who allowed their dogs to dirty public places to the detriment of cleanliness and hygiene.

"The council feels these acts deserve to be condemned, also because they lead to a waste of both human and financial resources."

The council urged people to let it know if they noticed anybody committing acts of vandalism so that steps could be taken.
