o Germany's Nick Heid-feld will not race in today's Italian Grand Prix and will be replaced by Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia, his Williams team announced yesterday. Heidfeld suffered a heavy crash in testing at Monza at the end of last week and complained of a lingering headache yesterday.

o Bernie Ecclestone is ready to bet on Kimi Raikkonen moving from McLaren to Ferrari for 2007. "Schumacher will end his career at Ferrari. I think he will stop at the end of 2006," the 74-year-old Briton said. "And I am ready to bet that, in 2007, Raikkonen will be in a Ferrari."

o Eddie Irvine has moved closer to a possible takeover of the Minardi F1 team but owner Paul Stoddart says no deal is imminent. Irvine has been to several races this year acting on behalf of Russian banking and vodka magnate Roustam Tariko.

o The FIA is planning to use powerful computers to fix the sport's overtaking problems. FIA president Max Mosley said he was confident a solution would be found by the end of the year. A survey of 93,000 F1 fans from 180 countries this year revealed that 94 per cent wanted to see more overtaking in races.
