AUGUST 20 was Homeless Animals Day and Malta was among the 20 countries commemorating this day.

Island Sanctuary organised a silent march to draw the attention of all concerned to the sad plight of homeless animals in Malta.

It is a sad truth that the vast majority of dogs and cats born end up unwanted and homeless and are usually killed.

As a responsible association, Island Sanctuary is trying to promote a culture of neutering rather than indiscriminate breeding and dumping of unwanted pets.

Animal lovers who participated in this candlelight vigil marched behind a lone drummer and a banner proclaiming "Don't breed or buy while homeless animals die - Neuter yur pets".

Participants who carried appropriate slogans walked along Ghar id-Dud sea front to Spinola, St Julian's.

The event was also supported by Animal Rights Group, Animal Rights Malta, Hakunamatatamalta, Happy Paws, Moviment Graffiti, Noah's Ark, Stray Animals' Support Group, SOS Animals and Yelp for Help.
