No one was injured when a shot was fired in the air as a policeman tried to disarm a man who was brandishing a shotgun threateningly during a family argument in Iklin on Tuesday evening.

The police were informed at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday that an argument had developed between two people in Ix-Xwieki Street.

A sergeant and a police constable who were on patrol in the area went to the spot where they found a 32-year-old man of Iklin threatening a 42-year-old man of Mqabba with a shotgun, the police said.

The officers tried to calm the situation down but the man holding the shotgun also threatened them. A shot was fired in the air as the police constable approached the armed man and tried to wrestle the firearm away from him, the police said.

The man then entered the residence of a neighbour where he was arrested moments later.
