Victoria Lines - Mosta
A part of the north-end of the Victoria Lines, locally known as Ta' Qaduma, has been restored to its former colonial splendour. The defence line had been hewn through solid rock, forming a ditch and a musketry parapet, which originally had built-in musketry loopholes through which soldiers could fire against the enemy.
The site has been cleared of accumulated debris and parts of it were reconstructed using similar material.
The Victoria Lines were built by the British between 1870 and 1899 to secure the northeastern flank of the island including the Grand Harbour and the naval dockyard.
This project has been carried out in collaboration with Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna.
Our Lady of Graces Chapel - Sliema
Restoration works have been carried out on the oldest standing chapel in Sliema. Financed through Mepa's EIPP scheme the extensive works included the restoration of the façade, the inner walls, the ceiling and the dome.
Other maintenance works were carried out to the marble floor, the altar and the church's inner door and main door. Restoration works still need to be carried out on one sidewall and the tympanum of the chapel. The land on which the chapel stands today was property donated by Giovanna Salvaloco. The church was finished and consecrated around May 1804 and used to form part of the Birkirkara parish.
This project has been carried out in collaboration with the Stella Maris parish.
