Vodafone sponsors Gozo Red Cross training tools

The Vodafone Malta Foundation has covered the cost of two new state-of-the-art mannequins used to train paramedics and people learning first aid.

The mannequins, acquired by the Gozo branch of the Malta Red Cross from the US, allow the Red Cross to accurately simulate pre-hospital emergency care scenarios during its training exercises.

The funds were presented to the general secretary of the Red Cross in Gozo, Etienne Micallef by Dr Joanna Drake, a member of the Vodafone Malta Foundation.

"The Red Cross provides invaluable back-up to the emergency services and, through its team of volunteer paramedics, ensures that many public events are held in safety. These volunteers, as well as all those who wish to learn first aid, need to have the best possible training.

The Vodafone Malta Foundation is delighted to have helped in the purchase of these mannequins which will prove to be an important tool in ensuring that Red Cross in Gozo is able to handle any emergency," Dr Drake said.

The Red Cross currently has three ambulances stationed in Gozo. They are run by a team of 25 qualified paramedics who provide emergency cover during public events as well as patient transport to and from medical facilities.
