Spain's Albert Luque relishes the prospect of playing alongside Newcastle United captain Alan Shearer after signing a five-year contract yesterday.
"I am very happy to sign," the 27-year-old said following his 9.5 million pound ($17.2 million) move from Deportivo La Coruna.
"This transfer has been talked about for a while now and it is good to be here and have the matter resolved. I am looking forward to playing at this fantastic stadium with Alan Shearer. I feel very valued by Newcastle.
"I will work very hard to prove my worth and I hope to score many goals. I want to prove myself in this league and I am confident that I can."
A spokesman said international clearance of the transfer could jeopardise Luque's chances of making his debut against Manchester United at St James' Park tomorrow.
"It would be a great game for me to make my debut in," Luque said.
The Tyneside club, who are managed by former Liverpool and Scotland midfielder Graeme Souness, have only one point from their opening three league games and are yet to score.
Luque joined Deportivo La Coruna from Real Mallorca in 2002 for 15 million euros ($18.49 million).
Souness said Newcastle were still pursuing Real Madrid and England striker Michael Owen after offering in excess of £15 million for his services.
"Our offer is still on the table," Souness said.
