A wartime Spitfire and a Hurricane will leave their base at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, Cambridgeshire on September 18 and fly to Malta in the Merlins Over Malta project.

The Spitfire and the Hurricane were the most familiar aircraft with the Maltese during and after World War II because they formed part of the island's defences.

It will be the first time in over 50 years that these aircraft will fly over Malta arriving through Grand Harbour on September 22 after flying over France and Italy.

Their arrival will coincide with the Battle for Malta Veteran's reunion and the inauguration of the Malta Aviation Museum's Air Battle Of Malta hangar.

The Spitfire and the Hurricane will leave Malta on September 29 on their way back home.

Merlins Over Malta is being supported by the Malta Tourism Authority. Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech presented a cheque to the organisers on behalf of the MTA.
