Buskett to be spruced up

Representatives of various entities and NGOs have been appointed to form part of a consultative body on the restoration and embellishment to be undertaken at Buskett.

The committee's priorities include the restoration of extensive stretches of rubble wall, the cleaning of the waterway, the reinstatement of archways, the regeneration of degraded areas, a tree planting programme, effective security service and traffic control.

Plans for a visitors' centre are in hand. The committee, which met on Tuesday, consists of representatives from the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, BirdLife Malta, Nature Trust, Heritage Malta, the Environmental Landscapes Consortium and a resident of the locality.

The appointments were made by the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment.

Environment Minister George Pullicino said at the meeting that over the past months works had been carried out to restore Buskett and that further works needed to be done in the next few months.
