Wied Ghollieqa
The Malta Environment and Planning Authority has financed the rehabilitation, restoration and maintenance of Wied Ghollieqa.
Works included the rebuilding of rubble walls, tree planting and maintenance, reconstruction of an ghorfa and the construction of an educational visitors' centre. It has continued in its efforts to enhance and protect Malta's natural environment... because it cares.
This project has been carried out in collaboration with Nature Trust (Malta).
Gnien L-Gholjiet, Mellieha
The Authority has financed the development of Gnien l-Gholjiet in Misrah Thomas Spratt, Mellieha. In the garden one can appreciate patches of garigue (xaghri) that was a familiar sight prior to the 1960s when this type of terrain dominated this part of Mellieha.
The new garden also provides a habitat for a number of typical Maltese trees such as the Aleppo pine (znuber), Holm oak (ballut), carob (harrub), bay laurel (rand) and olive (zebbug) trees. The vegetation around the garden area is irrigated through a system fed by a well that has been purposely built underneath one of the landscaped areas.
This project has been carried out in collaboration with the Mellieha local council.
