Two young men were yesterday each jailed for 14 months after they admitted to burgling an apartment while on probation.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti recommended that the director of prison ensure that Etienne Buttigieg and Aaron Ritchie attend a residential drug rehabilitation programme once they declared that they were ready to do so.

Mr Buttigieg, 18, of Santa Lucija, and Mr Ritchie, 21 of Paola, pleaded guilty to stealing a video camera, a mobile phone and other items from a Paceville apartment, causing damage and committing a crime while on probation.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.
