A number of local charities in the past few months have benefited from donations made by Round Table (Malta) 2.
In April, RT2 donated Lm100 worth of books and stationery to Dar it-Tama, which is a non-profit organization that helps children and adults learn to read and write.
The presentation was made to Tania Scopazzi, the Dar it-Tama co-ordinator. Commenting on the donation, RT2 chairman Kenneth Micallef emphasised the importance of being literate in today's world and praised the volunteers for offering their time for such a worthy cause.
Another donation was made to Fr Alfred Vella, director of the Emigrants' Commission. On this occasion, RT2 donated a second-hand Honda Civic belonging to one of the club's members.
The presentation was made at Dar l-Emigrant in Valletta and the vehicle was gratefully accepted by Fr Vella who explained that it would greatly facilitate the mobility of its staff and the refugees.
RT2 also announced the placing of collection boxes at the Eden Century cinemas in St Julian's to raise money for charity. This was possible through the kind intervention of Ian DeCesare, the managing director at the Eden Leisure Group and himself a former Round Table (Malta) 2 chairman.
RT2's vice-chairman Chris Vassallo Cesareo emphasised that "while Round Table is all about having fun with a group of friends, we also try to give something back to the community.
"Over the years, Round Table has helped a number of local charities, and we look forward to continuing doing so. This is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a Tabler."
Round Table (Malta) 2 is a young men's service organisation, which forms part of the Association of Round Tables Malta, and through their umbrella association are members of Round Table International and the World Council of Service Clubs.
