Margaret Mortimer Girls' Junior Lyceum, Santa Lucija, is taking part in a Comenius project entitled "Active Bodies, Healthy Minds". The project partners are schools from Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and Hungary. The main aim of this Comenius 1 school project is to promote physical activity and healthy eating in school.
During the first year of the project, students in all the partner schools had the opportunity to take part in several project activities such as fitness tests, healthy eating day, learning their respective National Dance and creating a power point presentation about their country.
The second project meeting was held last May at Ikem College in Iskenderun, Turkey. The collaboration and involvement in the project of the administration team, teachers and students at Ikem College are extremely evident.
The governor and the Minister of Education of the region visited the school to meet project partners. During the meetings, project co-ordinators and teachers involved in the project activities, evaluated the activities carried out throughout this scholastic year and shared the end products. A partnership report was compiled during the meetings and will be submitted to every Socrates National Agency in due time.
The project activities related to health and physical activity are of great benefit to students at Margaret Mortimer GJL, who in spite of the lack of necessary sports facilities in their school, are very keen to participate.
This Comenius project is being funded by the Socrates Programme which is an educational programme of the European Union.
