England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson was rushed to hospital in Tokyo yesterday with an inflamed appendix while on tour with Newcastle Falcons.

England's 2003 World Cup hero was hospitalised as a precaution after complaining of stomach pains and was later diagnosed with an inflamed appendix.

Wilkinson has been put on medication but the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) said he could miss today's game against the NEC Green Rockets and the match with Toyota Verblitz on Tuesday.

Wilkinson has been plagued by injuries since he dropped the goal that won England the World Cup in Australia in 2003.
