Magistrate Antonio Mizzi has retained his post as president of the Malta Basketball Association after an annual general meeting of the local governing body of basketball.

Magistrate Mizzi, a director in the Malta Olympic Committee Executive Board, was uncontested. This will be his fourth consecutive two-year term as head of the basketball association.

Frank Camilleri was also confirmed as general secretary for a fifth time running and deputy president Ray Mercieca was elected for the fourth time in the MBA council.

Ottavio Terribile and Joe Depasquale Schranz were re-confirmed as vice-presidents.

The two new faces in the council will be Owen Sciberras, the financial controller, and Colin Schembri, the third vice-president.

With the domestic basketball season likely to get underway in mid-October, the MBA Coaching Commission will be holding the second part of a course for coaches between August 29 and September 3.

The course, which started last summer, is held in conjunction with the European Association of Basketball Coaches and conducted by the renowned Maurizio Mondoni.

The course will cover aspects from mini-basket and the youth sector. Among the topics to be discussed are "Methodology for teaching mini-basket". This includes skills, basics and ball handling drills.

Other sections which will be tackled are the individual fundamentals with or without the ball, drills about dribble and combination of passing and dribbling.
