The President's Palace, in Valletta was yesterday afternoon evacuated after the police received a phone call that there was a suspicious package near the building' main door.

The police received the report at about 3.30 p.m. and the Armed Forces of Malta's bomb disposal unit were called in.

A robot was also brought into action and the suspicious packet was destroyed but it was not found to have contained any explosives, police sources said.
