Opposition justice spokesman Anglu Farrugia yesterday presented to the Clerk of the House a motion for the revocation of court fees increases.

The new tariffs came into effect on August 1 by means of a legal notice.

In the motion, Dr Farrugia argues that the increases are a further burden on the people and detrimental to the independence of the courts and access to justice.

The tariffs, he says, were increased without any consultation and without any serious debate.

Parliament is in recess and meets again next month.
