The intersection on the way from Marsascala entering the main traffic flow from Zabbar to Fgura has been a headache for quite some time.

The recent reconstruction of the junction equipped with modern traffic lights has been a blessing and certainly helped the flow in no small way but there is still some room for improvement. The existing bottleneck affects traffic coming from Hompesch Gate to Marsascala and to a lesser extent traffic coming from Zabbar to Hompesch Gate.

This problem could easily be solved with the construction of a simple ramp starting from opposite the petrol station, crossing over the road from Zabbar to Hompesch and descending into the Marsascala bypass, thus freeing the waiting traffic of both lanes at very small expense. There should be no technical problems.

In the meantime, crossing the road to enter or leave the petrol station should be stopped by having a continuous white line or preferably by erecting a steel barrier dividing the road to eliminate disruption of traffic flow.

Incidentally, I fail to understand the need of a dangerous traffic island, existing a few metres away, near the Pirella Supermarket. Zebra crossings with traffic lights abound in this area but this is the only one with a traffic island.

The authorities' attention is also drawn to the danger existing in front of Gauci General Stores in Zabbar Road, Fgura. This unlit arrow in the middle of the road is the cause of numerous car accidents.
