Hearts went top of the Premier League yesterday after they won 3-0 at Dundee Utd and champions Rangers lost 3-2 at Aberdeen.

Scotland defender Steven Pressley headed Hearts in front after six minutes from a free-kick by Czech midfielder Rudi Skacel.

Another Czech, striker Roman Bednar, lashed home a second before the interval and in second-half stoppage time Skacel made it 3-0 despite claims for offside.

Hearts top the SPL with nine points from three games, two points ahead of Celtic who led the pack on Saturday following their 3-1 home win over Falkirk.

Rangers stay on six points after their defeat at Aberdeen earlier yesterday. They had Fernando Ricksen red-carded and he now misses the first Old Firm clash with Celtic at Ibrox on Saturday.

Aberdeen's Jamie Smith scored with a 25-metre drive two minutes from time to settle a thrilling encounter in which Rangers battled back from 2-0 down before having Ricksen sent off.
