The IAAF will investigate a report that Olympic decathlon champion Roman Sebrle received an intravenous infusion from the Czech team doctor during Wednesday's final in Helsinki.

An IAAF statement said the world governing body had received information from Finnish officials that Sebrle and his team-mate Tomas Dvorak, the 1996 Olympic bronze medallist, had received an infusion immediately prior to the start of the 1,500 metres, the final discipline in the two-day event.

The matter was discussed by members of the IAAF medical and anti-doping commission at a meeting on Thursday evening and an IAAF investigation had been initiated.

"Intravenous infusions are prohibited if they are intended to alter in the integrity or validity of an athlete's sample," the IAAF said.
