Many thanks go to the respectable gentlemen from the Malta Tourism Authority who took the initiative to remove abandoned boat trailers which were a danger and an eyesore for so many years at Mistra Bay (August 5).
We have been operating a catering outlet in this bay for the past 10 years and it is not the first time that shortcomings in this locality were brought to the attention of the authorities concerned, but to no avail.
Besides the problem of the abandoned trailers we have highlighted more serious grievances.
There are no sanitary facilities in this bay and it is a regular occurrence that members of the public (locals and tourists) embarrassed, seek refuge in our establishment if nature calls.
The one-kilometre stretch of road leading from the bay to the main road is in pitch darkness during the night. Driving home at two o'clock in the morning, through this narrow stretch of road in the dark, is no treat. Half a dozen street lights will be a great relief.
A considerable part of the shore and shallow waters of the bay are littered with stones brought down the valley by rainstorms over the years. A clean-up and some dredging will convert this picturesque bay into an idyllic swimming place for both locals and tourists.
It is never too late and things have started moving now. Let us hope we will go all the way and do a good job.
