Gozo girl wins beauty contest in Tunisian resort

Mireille Xuereb, a 17-year-old Gozitan girl who lives in Sliema, was crowned Miss Sousse Turisme 2005 during the Aoussou Carnival.

The contest was open to girls holidaying in Sousse, Hammamet and Port El Kantaoui hotels. A Polish and a Tunisian contestant placed second and third. Thirty contestants took part.

Ms Xuereb was with her parents on an eight-day stay at the El Hana Hannibal Palace in Port El Kantaoui organised by Albertours.

The contestants were presented to Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
