Through its website, the Sliema local council informed all Sliema resident on July 13 that it would not be issuing any permits for the use of cranes being used on construction and this during the whole month of August, in order to allow residents to enjoy the month without dust and noise.

On the morning of Saturday, August 6, Manwel Dimech Street was closed (because of a crane) and St Anthony Street was also closed, again because of a crane.

So, who is the Sliema local council trying to fool? August is just as bad as any other month, with dust and noise all over the place. Or is it possibly next August 2006 that the council is referring to? Sliema, without dust and noise - that will be the day!

Sliema local council's comments will be much appreciated, particularly regarding the two cranes mentioned above.
