Bunker barge collides with jetty

A bunker barge carrying diesel oil collided with the jetty at Lighter's Wharf, yesterday but no pollution ensued, the Malta Maritime Authority said.

No one was injured in the incident which occurred at about 10 a.m. while the Maltese registered bunker barge, Golden Bay, was being shifted from Flagstone Wharf to Ras Hanzir. The MMA said a boat moored in the area was sunk as a result of the incident.

The jetty was slightly damaged.

The Ports Directorate is compiling information about the collision and is liasing with the police to establish the cause.
