Double Trap shooter William Chetcuti yesterday failed to make the final of the Double Trap competition during the last World Cup Series event of the year in Americana, Brazil.

Chetcuti, a silver medal winner in the previous World Cup shoot in Belgrade, Serbia, this time had to settle for seventh place overall after missing out on a shoot-off to determine the last slot in the barrage.

In all, 32 shooters were taking part in Double Trap.

After the first three rounds of 50 clays, 20-year-old Chetcuti hit 43, 45 and 47 for a 135 score from 150. He finished with the same tally of another shooter, from Korea, who eventually qualified for the final after Chetcuti missed on the fourth clay in the decider.

Notwithstanding the partial setback, Chetcuti's place in the November World Cup finals in Dubai is already secured thanks to his superb showing in Belgrade last month.

Yesterday, the ISSF announced the 2006 World Cup Series dates on its website.

These are: April 2-11 (China), May 4-11 (USA), May 19-28 (Egypt) and June 6-15 (Germany).

The 49th All Events World Shooting Championships will be held in Zagreb, Croatia, between July 21 and August 5.
