An overall drop of 17.9 per cent was registered in the total industrial new orders index in May this year compared to the same month last year, the National Statistics Office said.

The domestic new orders index registered an increase of 30.1 per cent while new orders for export decreased by 17.6 per cent.

Increases were registered in, among others, the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products and of fabricated metal products, except machinery .

On the other hand, decreases were registered among others in the manufacture of textiles and textile products and wearing apparel, by 2.5 and 65.3 per cent respectively.
