London millionaires Chelsea, which nothing seems beyond them in the transfer market as long as Roman Abramovich keeps bankrolling what Jose Mourinho orders, will be keen to add another honour to last year's double under their new boss.

Portuguese Mourinho led the team to the Premiership title after a lapse of 50 years and the League Cup as well.

Tomorrow, at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, they clash with city neighbours and FA Cup holders Arsenal in the Community Shield showdown.

Arsene Wenger, like the rest of the managers in the top flight, cannot compete with Chelsea in the wheeling and dealing of new players. Moreover, the Frenchman had to offload one of his key players in the transfer of Patrick Vieira to Juventus.

To date, the Gunners have yet to sign an adequate replacement and Wenger uttered that if he would fail in his attempt he would have to change the side's style of play.

On their part, Chelsea have added some new faces to their squad - defender Asier del Horno, from Athletic Bilbao (£8m), former Man. City forward Shaun Wright-Phillips (£21m) and decided not to loan out Hernan Crespo to give them a better chance up front.

Arsenal added midfielder Alex-sander Hleb to their squad.

In one of his many addresses to the press this summer, Mourinho remarked that managing Chelsea was the hardest job in football, simply because he had too much money to spend. He outlined the difficulty facing him as he prepared to build a squad capable of winning, well, just about anything and everything.

Wenger, now in his ninth year at Highbury, is likely to face the toughest challenge of his reign in order to keep up with Chelsea. The team had finished first or second in eight of his full seasons at the helm.

Now, he is being criticised for the transfer of Vieira.

The fans are fearing the worst but they must put their faith in Wenger once more since he never let the club down before. Arsenal will stutter if they have a persisting number of injuries, but the youngsters coming up at the club, all spotted by the shrewd tactician, will play their hearts out to keep the Gunners' flag flying high.

Francesc Fabregas, Antonio Reyes, Philippe Senderos, Mathieu Flamini and Robin van Persie will all be a good replacement when called upon. Wenger believes that these upcoming players are ready to take up first-team duties.

Wenger shocked the fans when he left Sol Campbell out of the FA Cup final against Manchester United. Last month, he was at it again when he did not dally with the Vieira deal and the player was soon on his way out.

The questions being asked are... what will happen now? Will they have to suffer as Manchester United did with the departure of David Beckham?

Edu, who had shown how much he fitted in when he replaced Vieira, was also transferred to Valencia as Wenger felt led down when he was so near to sign Seville's Julio Baptista before he opted for Real Madrid and a 'Spanish passport'.

New captain Thierry Henry is confident his side will continue to rub shoulders with the elite group of the Premiership, challenging for honours on all fronts.

Mourinho has 33 international players at his disposal but is still in a dilemma who to play up front.

Crespo has now joined Didier Drogba and Carlton Cole as candidates for the front line. Eidur Gudjohnsen, having done a marvellous job in a role behind the strikers in the last phase of the campaign, could also be used as a forward.

Drogba, who has gone down as Chelsea costliest player in history, failed to show his authority in the penalty area as he used to do in his Marseille days. But Mourinho is very confident that Drogba can become lethal once more to silence his doubters.

Wright-Phillips can also become a consistent scorer for the Blues, keen to emulate Frank Lampard's exploits from midfield with his bursting runs.

Arsenal, appearing in the season curtain-raiser for the fourth consecutive time, are the Community Shield holders following their 3-1 victory over Manchester United in August 2004.

They are now on a par with United with 11 successes each. Still United had shared the honours (after drawn matches) with four other sides and Arsenal fell in this category only once.

On the losing end, United had lost in the one-off match on eight occasions. Arsenal lost six times.

Hence, the Londoners will be keen to take over at the summit with 12 'Shield' successes if they topple Chelsea tomorrow.

The Stamford Bridge outfit won the Shield twice: 2000 (vs Manchester United 2-0) and 1955 when they won their only other championship crown (vs Newcastle 3-0).

Chelsea lost the encounter on the same number of times: 1997 (vs Manchester United 2-4 on penalties) and 1970 (vs Everton 1-2).

Arsenal are still to forfeit a match to Chelsea since Mourinho took over.

Last season's Premiership en-counters:

Dec. 12  Arsenal-Chelsea 2-2 (Henry 2 - Terry, Gudjohnsen)

April 20  Chelsea-Arsenal 0-0

In the domestic scene Arsenal are undefeated against Chelsea in a run of 18 matches. The Gunners' last defeat was a 5-0 hiding at Highbury in the fourth round of the League Cup. One must also mention Chelsea's 3-2 aggregate victory in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2003-04.

Overall the record reads:

Played 160 - Arsenal won 67 to Chelsea's 44, with the remaining 49 matches ending as draws.
