The Foundation for Educational Services has teamed up with a number of localities across Malta to promote learning among local families. One of these localities is Senglea.

An Educational Family Festival is being held in Senglea to give residents the opportunity to discuss the educational activities held in their locality this year, the Foundation for Educational Services said.

They will also have the opportunity to propose new initiatives that will consolidate what has been achieved so far and also address other educational needs of the community. The Educational Family Festival will be held at the Gardjola Garden in Senglea on Monday at 7.30 p.m.

In Senglea, the Foundation for Educational Services has worked hand in hand with the primary state school, local council and other entities within the locality to generate new educational opportunities for everyone in the community.

These initiatives include Klabb Hilti which promotes family literacy during school hours and in after-school activities and the Community Lifelong Learning Centre which provides courses that help adults in the world of work. These centres are partly financed by the EU under the Structural Funds for Malta 2004-2006 and European Social Fund.

The foundation said other initiatives include activities to promote active citizenship for residents of Senglea and the Cottonera region. Parents are also being trained to promote reading through their local and regional libraries through a project that unites the efforts of the foundation and the Department of Libraries and Archives to promote reading especially in the key early stages of a child's development. Volunteers who have actively participated in a range of family focused learning opportunities are working closely with the foundation, the school and the local council to run and conclude a Summer Family Club, as well as community outreach activities that have been taking place in different parts of Senglea this summer.

All this was possible thanks to the cooperation of different entities from Senglea, including the local council, the primary school, the parish, the Senglea Athletic Football Club Nursery, the Bocci Club, the Ghaqda ta' l-Armar tal-Festa, the Queen's Own Band Club, Bronk Productions, as well as various artisans from Senglea.
