A new aluminium unit will be opened in Gozo to service the Ministry for Gozo, with priority being given to schools on the island. Preparations to set up the unit are in hand by the Customer Services Department of the Ministry for Gozo.

A number of government employees will be shifted from other departments to the new unit. Members of staff who will be making up the unit have undergone a reskilling training programme with the Employment and Training Corporation (Gozo) and will be ready to occupy the new workshops next month.

The Ministry for Gozo is in the process of upgrading several schools on the island.

The ongoing programme of modernisation of sanitary facilities in Gozo schools is presently focusing on the Guzé Aquilina Primary School and the Special Unit in Sannat.

Sir Arturo Mercieca Primary School in Victoria is also being upgraded. Major restoration of the façade of this school, together with that of the School of Music in Sannat, will start in the coming weeks and the work should be ready in time for the start of the scholastic year in September, the ministry said.

More works at different schools will also commence in the weeks to come. One of the major projects this summer consists of the re-designing of the electrical installation system at the Ninu Cremona and the Agius de Soldanis secondary schools.

Other tenders are being prepared for further works at the Agius de Soldanis secondary school and the Rosa Magro primary school in Xewkija, the ministry said.
