According to a letter dated May 11, 2005, signed by the mayor and executive secretary of the Sliema local council, the works in the street where I reside were expected to be completed within five weeks of May 16.

What is the situation today? We have two gaping holes at each end of the street while the traffic is still being allowed to pass through. Vehicles park in such a manner (due to lack of traffic lines) that they block the entrances (including my own) of private garages.

Moreover, the inspection chambers on one side of the pavement are being punctured by heavy vehicles that contravene the no-entry signs and drive down this narrow street by encroaching over the same pavement.

I am asking the mayor and his council as well as the private contractor to get their acts together and decide either to close off the street until the works are completed or else paint the yellow lines on those parts of the street which would allow the residents to have access to their respective garages.

Wake up please.
