The new Polo was launched just in time for its 30th birthday. More dynamic and fresher than ever, the re-designed front end with its V-shaped radiator grille lends the Polo a significantly more striking look.

This model is slightly longer than the previous version, at 3,916 mm, and retained the same height (1,465 mm) and width (1,650 mm).

Speaking at the launch Continental Cars managing director Chevalier Maurice F. Mizzi said: "the Polo is building on its well-known virtues... Its stable value can be seen in every detail and it leaves nothing to be desired in everyday use. Good space, clever controls, a well-organised cockpit and top-class seats ensure that all passengers feel well looked after in the Polo."

The new Polo's face is essentially characterised by its headlights. These are defined as a trapezoidal element, enhanced by the eye-catching, circulara elelment of the main headlights. They interpret the concept with cndierable amount of fantasy. The desivners have been very creative in playing around with the characteristic circular badge and have come up with some fascinating details.

The rear end lends the vehicle a further dynamic touch. Here, the rear window ends in a V-shape in the lower fame area, making the Polo appear lively and sporty when viewed from the rear. The re-desinged rear lights also demonstrate uniqueness and a dynamic character, picking up on the front end's circular elements and clearly setting the tone at the rear of the new Polo. The Polo will be available in three equipment levels: Trendline; Comfortline; and Sportline. New options on these models include brake assist, ParkPilot, a tyre pressure monitor and the coming home function.

Safety features include front and side airbags, and an optional head airbag system.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), which offers additional support for safe driving, is fitted as standard on engines above 100 bhp and is available optionally for the other engines.

The Polo is equipped with a dual-rate brake servo. As part of the standard ABS it acts as a brake assist. This mechanical feature boosts the braking pressure and therefore provides effective support in dangerous situations.

The Polo offers a range of five petrol and four diesel engines. Petrol engines offer 55 to 100 bhp, while the TDI range is from 70 bhp to 130. Through this range all customers, from those wanting an economic engine, a dynamic alternative or a high-torque economic diesel.

New colours available are Olympic Blue, Silver Bird, Fairway Green, Sunflower, Winter Red, Sunset Red, Shadow Blue and Tossa Blue.

Prices start from Lm5,740 for a 1.2-litre six-valve engine and vehicle equipped with power steering, driver and passenger airbags, height adjustable front seats, fully adjustable steering wheel, engine immobiliser, storage drawers under the front seats, tinted glass, three rear headrests and ABs.
