Switzerland's European University

An international education success story

October will see the start of the first full-time outreach courses to be run in Malta on behalf of a foreign university. These will be run by the European Institute of Education, which will be responsible for the running of the Malta centre on behalf of the European University of Switzerland.

Over the past 30 years, the European University which has its main campus in Montreux, Switzerland, has developed a business education that delivers both the highest quality teaching and a competitive edge learning environment.

The faculty members are all experienced academics or business professionals. They care about students and bring current issues into the classroom. Students at the European University benefit from the university's modern facilities and the secure environment of its different locations. When you visit one of the university's campuses/centres, you will immediately understand the university's collegial and friendly atmosphere.

This university has developed a network of campuses in various countries. This broad network encourages students to participate in inter-campus/centre exchanges in countries like Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Greece, the Netherlands, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Singapore and now Malta.

The European University offers not only the traditional programmes of Bachelor and Master of Business Administration but also the possibility to specialise in 10 fields of management education.

The first goal of the European University is to bring the American education model to Europe by relating classroom theory to professional skills. The courses are taught using the case study method to prevent business theory from remaining abstract and incomprehensible.

The second goal is to internationalise its programmes by providing a unique environment. An international perspective is guaranteed by the composition of the faculty and student body.

Choosing a university is one of the most difficult decisions a student could face in his life. The European University not only offers a quality education but also helps develop the skills needed to compete within the new paradigms.

The European University, founded in 1973, provides a quality education to students from all over the world. The cornerstone of the university's educational philosophy is the recognition of the distinction between the younger student still deciding on a career and the adult student who has established personal and professional goals. The university recognises that education for executives must harmonise with full personal and professional lives.

In a dynamic age when career paths need to be flexible, open-ended and responsive to changes, the European University's primary purpose is to prepare students to become competent, responsible practitioners of management and related professions.

The European University focuses on practical realities of managerial life with emphasis on wise and effective management. It differs from traditional business schools in three ways - firstly, the faculty has extensive business experience and instructors are actively engaged in business life. Secondly, each of the programmes provides detailed insight into the practical aspects of its specialty. Thirdly, the distinctive case studies give students practical experience in solving real world business problems.

All managerial decisions are potentially momentous. The European University is deeply concerned with the process of managerial decision making and recognises the fact that managers are required to solve problems that have no obvious or easy answers.

For this reason, the European University teaches its students to approach managerial decision making with a full awareness of the positive and negative features of each alternative.

The European University also believes that running a business in a highly ethical and honest manner is not only correct, but the only way to compete in today's demanding world. This belief is reflected in the university's strict standards of academic honesty, to which all students must adhere.
